Tibetan rugs are unmatched for elegant floor coverings. The intricate patterns are created by hand weaving and knotting thousands of individual strands of wool or silk. This labor-intensive process makes the price of Tibetan rugs high and you will want to choose carefully when buying one of these treasures for your home. The first step in choosing the perfect Tibetan rug for your room is to measure your room. This will give you an idea of the sizes of rugs that will work for you. Tibetan rugs can also be purchased for stair runners. These require you to measure the stairs and to count the number of risers. When you go shopping for Tibetan handmade rugs, it is important to carry a photo of the room with you. This will help as you choose colors and rug patterns. You will find Tibetan rugs in a variety of beautiful colors. Patterns include floral, geometrics, pictorials and decorative. Make sure to consider the type of material the Tibetan rug is made of, there are many material Tibetan line rug offers like High land Tibetan wool, New Zealand wool, Silk, Hemp, Linen, banana fiber silk. Tibetan rugs made of wool are soft and resilient and exude warmth. Silk rugs are not as rugged as wool rugs but they are very luxurious. However, they are best suited for low traffic areas and warmer climes. Hemp rugs are not luxurious as wool and silk rug but very good at heavy traffic areas, hemp rugs are also eco friendly, Tibetan rugs may sometimes be made of “art silk or Indian silk” which means they are rayon or viscose, the price of the rug will be very low then the original Chinese silk, please be sure to understand genuine silk before paying a silk priced rug. Pure silk rugs will be higher in price. Ask about the rugs history. What country was the rug made in? Kathmandu is the capital of Tibetan rug production in Nepal. True Tibetan rugs can come from Nepal and Tibet. Other country may also have same type but it may not be authentic, ask about the dye used, Swiss chrome dyed rugs are good and color fast which means it is durable, many rugs now a days dyed with indigo or other chemical dyes that are not only poor in color fast but also bad for your health. When you are considering an Tibetan rug it is important to examine the rug closely. Feel free to turn the rug over to see the weave. Some rugs have been aged using artificial methods. These rugs have been washed and painted and will be lighter on the back. With normally aging fading would not occur on the back, as it is not exposed to light. The knot count of a Tibetan rug is also important. A higher knot count will usually point to a more intricate design. Higher knot counts also mean a higher durability and fine texture. Unfortunately, a higher durability and more intricate design also equal a higher price tag. If the rug is 100 knots that means there must be 100 knot counts in one square inch, it is hard to count but professionals can count from the backside of the rug. For amateurs it is best to see if the designs edge are rough or fine, deep and heaving carving on the edges of design assent could also be done to hide its roughness, but it is clear from the backside of the rug, it takes little practice and time to understand it, ask a sales person to ensure the knots count. Another tip for buying a Tibetan rug includes testing the rug to determine if it is colorfast. If you rub a damp rag across the rug and color comes off you do not want to purchase the rug. Part of the fun for many people in buying a Tibetan Rug is bargaining. Always ask the sales person if they can do better on the price. You can count on most rugs being priced between $20 and $80 dollars a square foot. Prices will vary depending on where the rug was made, what materials, knot counts, dye used.
