| Modern rugs true to their name are the most up-to-date rugs available. Contemporary rugs can play a huge role in the décor of homes as they are often used as statement piece to bring an injection of colour to cool calm simplistic surroundings. Geometric designs, atypical shapes, bold colours and artistic flair make modern rugs a great addition to any home. Traditional rugs with their timeless elegance and classic charm will always have a place in interior design but they don’t aren’t right for every interior. From minimalist modern apartments to upmarket city offices a modern style rug is perfect for giving that wow factor. With a myriad of choices in design, colour and quality there will be the perfect modern rug to complete your desired interior look. Modern style rugs are often the focal point of a room and can be a great conversation starter if the right rug is chosen. Aztec, Art Deco, MacIntosh inspired designs and Andy Warhol’s Pop Art are among the most famous contemporary style rugs. Like striking pieces of art it is not uncommon to hear people design their whole room around an audacious contemporary rug. Crazy geometric shapes, large bubblegum circles, pop art Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn facades and electrifying shockwaves have all made their way onto the modern rug form. Don’t be afraid of colour especially if you have a white minimalist décor, a vibrant splash of red or yellow or any of the primary colours will add an artistic splash of live to a room. Bright colours play an important part in contemporary style rugs but not all contemporary rugs are colourful. Sophisticated black and grey and cool calm white rugs are becoming very popular in rug design today. While statement rugs are quite often large rugs 8ft x 5ft and larger, this does not always have to be the case. Modern rugs come in a variety of different sizes from the standard fireside size of 5ft x 3ft to huge ballroom size rugs. Smaller sized modern rugs are perfect for adding a little spice to your room or highlighting a feature such as a white fireplace. While most standard rugs are rectangle in shape, contemporary rugs are available in a wide selection of shapes including circles, hexagons, ovals and the crazy irregular shapes seen in many art galleries. Think of the room and the space in the room were you want the rug to go, what can it take? What are the surrounding features? Making the right choice will result in a striking rug that should last years but picking the wrong rug could be disastrous throwing the whole balance of the room off kilter. For some the association between modern rugs and poor quality is strong, as they believe that quality can only be found in the timeless elegance of the traditional rugs. This is not the case. Contemporary rugs today are made in a wide range of materials ranging from the thickest wool to the most economical man-made polypropylene. Good quality modern rugs are fashionable and in many cases collectable making them a good investment for the conscientious homeowner. Don’t forget about modern style rugs for your children’s room.
